Heat Advisory Issued for MBTS
July, 26, 2023 – The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Manchester and much of the Commonwealth from Thursday, July 27 through Friday, July 28 with temperatures rising over 90 degrees both days.
Beat the heat and come chill out with us at the following MBTS cooling centers:
- Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library (Hours – TH: 10 AM – 7 PM, F: 10 AM – 5 PM)
- Town Hall Conference Rooms #5 & #7 (Hours – TH: 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM)
- Police Department Conference Room (Hours – 24 Hours/Day)
Please don’t leave pets or children in cars, check on your elderly neighbors and stay hydrated.
In addition to the heat, scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are expected Thursday as a weak wave of low-pressure crosses through the region. Storm activity is expected mainly between 2 PM and 10PM where damaging wind gusts could potentially occur.
As always, please dial 911 in the event of an emergency and the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department and Fire Department will be here to assist you.
Weather Advisory – Be Prepared
July 16, 2023 – The Manchester Police Department would like to advise residents on the potential for severe weather today. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and high winds are predicted today in our area so it is a good time to make sure you are prepared.
Storm Preparedness Tips:
- Charge phones and devices.
- Make sure you have a supply bottled water, non-perishable food, batteries, flashlights, battery-operated radio, first aid kit, and any needed medication.
- If you have a generator, make sure it is fueled.
- Clear or secure any debris or items outside that may become airborne if high winds are expected.
- Contact 911 in the event of an emergency and the Manchester Police and Fire Departments will be here to assist you.
- Contact National Grid to report a loss of power at 1-800-465-1212 or visit www.nationalgridus.com
Currently, Essex County is also under a Tornado Watch until 3 PM issued from the National Weather Service. A Tornado Watch means that weather conditions are favorable for a tornado to form during this time. A Tornado Warning is issued when a potential tornado is imminent. Pay attention to changing conditions and be ready to act if a Tornado Warning is issued in our area.
If a Tornado Warning is issued the following steps should be immediately taken:
- Seek shelter inside immediately if boating or doing outside activities.
- Move to the lowest level of your home away from windows, doors and outside walls.
Fourth of July Parade Marches On
Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA – The Annual July 4th Parade in Manchester will march on rain or shine on Tuesday, July 4 at 10 AM. The Manchester Police Department will close roads on a rolling basis so plan ahead. Please adhere to the temporary parking restriction signs that have been placed along the parade route.
Don’t forget the post parade fun at Brook Street Field! Join the fun after the parade at Coach Field Turf on Brook Street. There will be a DJ, face painting, antique cars, raffle drawing, prizes, and the antique fire engine from Seaside One that has not been taken out in almost 50 years.
Ice Cream with Chief Fitzgerald
Let’s celebrate the last day of school! Police Chief Todd Fitzgerald is hosting an ice cream social on Thursday, June 15 from 3 PM to 4:30 PM at Captain Dusty’s. All school aged MBTS residents are invited to celebrate the last day of school and the start of summer vacation with a free cone!
