Blizzard Warning for Manchester

Please be advised the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning and a Winter Storm Warning for Eastern Essex County starting at midnight tonight through 5 AM Sunday, January 30. In Manchester-by-the-Sea, we can expect heavy snowfall with predicted totals around 24″ on Saturday. High winds will create blizzard conditions with low visibility and drifting snow. Coastal flooding will be a concern during the two high tides on Saturday at 8 AM and 9:56 PM. Power outages are also possible due to the conditions.

Town Operations Updates

  • Winter Parking Ban: Blue lights activated at 4 PM on Friday, January 28. Strict enforcement will begin at midnight (tickets and towing). On street parking is NOT permitted.
  • Transfer Station: Closed Saturday, January 29.
  • Public Library: Closed Saturday, January 29 and Sunday, January 30.
  • Warming Station: Town Hall room 5 and the Police Station Lobby is available to residents who loose power and need to warm up and charge devices.
  • Sign Up for MBTS Emergency Communication Lists:
    * MBTS ALERTS: The Town uses this to notify residents via email or text about time sensitive issues such as: weather emergencies, water main breaks, beach closures, power outages, public health emergencies and a weekly Town Hall update. Be Prepared

  • Get your essential errands done today! (ie. groceries, pharmacy, gas)
  • Charge cell phones and devices.
  • Report Power outages to National Grid:

    * Natural Gas Customer Service: (800) 640-1595
  • Use generators safely and don’t keep too close to your home.
  • The Board of Health recommends using the following food safety tips in the event of a power outage.
  • Stay off the roads Saturday to allow DPW to safely plow.
  • Contact the Manchester Police Department and Manchester Fire Department (Dial 911) in the event of an emergency and they will assist you.
