The Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department wants everyone to have a spook-tacular and safe Halloween. Trick-or-treating is from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Saturday, October 31 townwide.
Residents and visitors should be advised that certain downtown streets will be closed to vehicle traffic to ensure pedestrian safety and maximum candy collecting of course. Norwood Avenue, Desmond Avenue, Brook Street, and Vine Street will be closed from 4 PM to 8 PM on Saturday, October 31. Residents who do not wish to participate should simply turn their front lights off.
Top Tips for a Frightfully Safe Night:
- Stay visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing, use flashlights, and make sure costumes don’t obstruct vision.
- Watch for traffic: Use sidewalks where available, cross at designated crossings, and look both ways before crossing streets.
- Keep costumes safe: Avoid long, trailing fabric and anything that could cause a child to trip.
- Travel together: Young children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Check treats: Inspect candy and other treats before children eat them.
- Drive carefully: Expect increased pedestrian activity, particularly children, and slow down in residential neighborhoods.
- Use extra caution with decorations: Keep walkways clear and make sure decorations do not create tripping or fire hazards.
- Report emergencies: Call 911 for emergencies. The department’s non-emergency number is (978) 526-1212
