The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the National Weather Service have issued a high wind warning for Manchester-by-the-Sea and the east coast of Massachusetts. Damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph are predicted from Thursday, December 22 in the evening through Friday, December 23 and could result in power outages. In addition to the wind, heavy rain is forecasted for our area bringing up to 2.5″ of rain. As a result, coastal flooding will be a concern during Friday morning’s high tide.
Here are some tips from the Manchester Police Department ahead of the storm:
- Take time to secure outdoor holiday decorations and furniture.
- Charge cell phones and devices ahead of time.
- Use caution when parking behind Town Hall which has a tendency to flood during storms. Consider alternative locations.
- Drive carefully if venturing out on the roads Saturday morning as a blast of cold air is expected to follow the storm which could result in icy roads.
