Since 1970 the Manchester 5th grade has taken an annual week trip to Ponkapoag Camp, Camp Chewonki, Camp Alford, Stone Environmental Camp, and now Camp Merrowvista. The Manchester and Essex 5th graders left Tuesday May 27th and returned May 31st. The trip brings both grades together before coming together for 6th grade at the Manchester Essex Middle School. Manchester Police Sgt. Mark McCoy on his fourth trip as a chaperone (Camp Chewonki alumni from 35 years ago) was joined by fellow Manchester Sgt. Steve Louf on his first trip and Essex Officer James Romeos on his third trip. The Officers provide overnight supervision and join the Manchester and Essex 5th graders on team challenges, hikes, and sit with students during all meals. These officers are all also EMTs and provide emergency medical care if needed. The students really get to know the officers outside their law enforcement duties and we are extremely proud of our officers for joining!
